Last week we had the Osmo box for Tinker Time. It was a box of 3 ipads with special senors on the top and 3 different programmes for the children to try. So the children could choose to either complete puzzles using Tangram shapes, or solve word challenges or solve maths problems.
It was a lot of fun. Tiffany and Alice really enjoyed making shapes using the Tangram shapes.
Welcome to Room 9A's blog for 2016. We are a class of amazing year 1 learners and our teacher is Mrs Newman. Our lovely Learning Assistant is Mrs Clyde.

Mum
I
loved you yesterday,
I love
you today,
And I
will love you tomorrow.
You
were there for me on my first day of school,
To
hold my hand and give me courage to go.
You
listen to me when I need to talk.
You
talk to me when I need to listen.
You
let me grow and learn from my own mistakes.
You
never leave my side when I feel sad.
I know
you are there to pick me up.
I wish
there was a way to repay all the things you have done for me.
But
there is nothing great enough to repay you,

Book Week
Room 9a has been learning about New Zealand Authors.
We read a lot of books. Some by Joy Cowley and some by Lynley Dodd and lots of books by Margret Mahy.
We loved the story by Lynley Dodd called 'The Nickle Nackle Tree'. We read it with our buddie class Room 18 and then we all had a fabulous afternoon creating our own amazing birds to go on Room 9a's Nickle Nackle Tree.
Come on in and take a look at our fabulous Nickle Nackle birds.

Grandparents visit Room 9a
Room 9a was very lucky today. We had 5 grandparents come into the classroom to read with us.
The children loved listening to the stories and loved hearing about school dinners, where they went to school and how they got to school. We had 2 grandparents who went to school in England.
Thanks so much for coming to visit and giving up your day. We even had grandparents travel up from Taupo last night to be here.
Laura's Nana is reading a book in Chinese.
The children loved listening to this story.
Charlotte's Grandad went to school in England.
He used to have school dinners for lunch.
Roman's Poppa lived in England too. He grew up in a cottage that had a big garden he spent lots of time playing in.
Jade's Nana came up from Taupo last night to be with us today. She grew up in the South Island.
Jade's Grandad grew up in Invercargill. He used to walk home to have lunch every day.

Symmetrical Butterflies
As part of our insects study we talked about symmetry in insects.
We made butterflies out of leaves and sticks we found at school and tried to make them symmetrical.
We then painted butterflies on one side of the wing and then folded them in half. We smoothed the two sides together and then opened them up.
Look at our beautiful butterfly's.
Have a look do they look symmetrical to you?

Room 9a Insects
Room 9a has turned into insects, so watch out when you come to visit.
Most of them are harmless but they can be scary and very hungry.

Stick Insects
We are learning about 'Insects'.
This week we looked at 'Stick Insects'.
We found out that they have 3 body parts.
They have 6 legs and they hatch from eggs.
They can camouflage themselves to look like the branches on trees.
The Maori name for a stick insect is 'Ro'.
They eat leaves.
*We made our own stick insects out of sticks. They are very cute. Come and have a look.
Room 9a went home on Thursday and all the stick insects were on the Science Table. When we came to school on Friday all the Stick Insects were on our insect tree at the back of the classroom. We think they decided to explore our classroom and found a lovely place to Camouflage on.
What do you think happened?
